Understand the legend, appreciate the art and inspire your senses on our quest to find Bawa and his circle of art aficionados.

Starting Point

Our starting point is at the stunning Brief Garden by Bevis Bawa, brother to Geoffrey. At Brief, learn about the early life of Bawa and understand his inspiration. Then, travel to the beautiful Lunuaganga, his country home where we deep dive into his work and understand the concept of tropical modernism.

Lunch With A View

At the end of the tour, enjoy a scrumptious lunch with a scenic view across the garden. Our last stop for the day is at Bentota Beach Hotel; one of his best commercial work. Here, delve into the art circles he associated with including icons like Barbara Sansoni, Laki Senanayake, Ismath Raheem, Dominic Sansoni and Ena De Silva.

Your Characterd Architecture: Ashan Algama

Ashan Algama is a Chartered Architect of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects and holds a Master of Architecture & Environmental Design from the University of The West of England, UK. He is also a member of the Royal Institute of Architects (RIBA) Enterprising, Inventive, and creatively independent he is a professional with over 12 years experience of streamlining the architectural design process from conceptualisation through overall project completion. With his experience in a myriad of project typologies, he strives to further progress and improve his creative sense in the field of architecture with every project he takes on. Ashan enjoys creating spaces that are dynamic, playful, and purposeful and derives inspiration from nature, and technology to create progressive and innovative architecture. Art comes naturally to Ashan as he is actively involved in stage drama as well as being a talented musician.

  • Duration: Full day (6 hours).
  • Difficulty: Easy.
  • Suitable for children: Yes, if they are interested in architecture.
  • Meeting time: 9 am.
  • Includes: Entrance to Brief Garden, entrance and lunch at Lunuganga, Bentota Beach Hotel tour, a soft beverage at Bentota Beach Hotel.
  • What to wear or bring along: Your camera and yourself. Light comfortable clothing (sleeved tops or scarf, pants or skirt should be below the knee for temple visit).
  • Important info: You will travel on this experience both by vehicle and by foot.

    • Bookings cancelled at least 7 days in advance will not incur any cancellation charges.
    • Bookings cancelled between 7 – 2 days prior to the tour, 50% cancellation applies.
    • Booking cancelled within 48 hours before the tour, full cancellation applies.
