The 10 best travel experiences in and around Galle, Ahangama and Weligama.
While Southern Sri Lanka is known for its stunning coastline fringed with swaying coconut palms—along with adventure sports like surfing—there’s more to the South than its beaches. The region houses tea gardens (yes, you heard it right!), dense jungles with roaring cascades, paddy fields where peacocks roam, and slow-living villages with century-old cottage industries. Much of the island’s spices and herbs grow and flourish here, while generational artists work meticulously to keep their crafts alive. By the rugged shoreline, you’ll find fishermen on stilts, a decade-old practice, while the surrounding ocean is home to whales, dolphins and other marine life. So here are the 10 best travel experiences in and around Galle, Ahangama and Weligama beyond the South’s sunkissed shores.
The best independent restaurants and bars in Weligama, Sri Lanka
Once a sleepy village, Weligama is now south Sri Lanka’s buzziest surf town. It’s vibrant, laidback, and magical, with the sunny southern coast’s palm-fringed shores and inland paddies.
The 10 best restaurants, cafes and bars in Ahangama
It’s no secret that Ahangama houses some of the most Instagrammed dining spots in the island right now. Frequented by digital nomads and those with an eye for design, this once sleepy fishing village has cemented itself as Sri Lanka’s most vibrant surf town, with a continuously evolving food scene.
Amidst an evening of elegance and celebration on the 12th of March, we gathered to honour the luminaries of our establishment, the ambassadors who epitomise the essence of hospitality at The Resplendent Awards.
Summer on our teardrop isle is magical. Picture misty mornings in the Central Highlands surrounded by the emerald green tea fields, golden sunsets and the allure of the Indian Ocean lapping at your feet in the South, and diverse habitats, ecology and scenery across many national parks and sanctuaries. Arrive and experience a resplendent summer.
Trekking Between Bungalows at Ceylon Tea Trails – My Debut Hike
I got ready and was kindly gifted a pair of leech socks by the bungalow manager. Even though it was during the dry season and encountering leeches was unlikely, I was not going to take a chance. In true hiking fashion, I put the leech socks on accompanied by a fanny pack, just in case my hands must be free to break a possible fall.

The gift of travel is always a good idea; especially when it’s your mom’s day to shine. Share meaningful, precious moments with your loved ones as each of our resorts offer unique experiences to celebrate on this Mother’s Day.
It’s true we have long days, but you’d never hear us complain about it. This is because we are truly passionate about what we do and we don’t care much for lack of sleep and the long hours of work. Going into national parks every day looking at all the wildlife even if it’s the same thing we see every day still beats all the tough and rough things of being a ranger. And this I speak for all the rangers in the world.
Celebrate your dad with the gift of travel. Why not make a weekend getaway out of it? Share meaningful moments with your loved ones as each of our resorts offer unique experiences to celebrate this Father’s Day.
This World Oceans Day, Resplendent Ceylon has chosen to shine the light on the depleting health of our oceans as a result of overconsumption and destructive fishing practices. This year, our resorts are highlighting plant-based culinary fare using hyperlocal and homegrown ingredients that promise to blur the lines of what constitutes as seafood.

If you know anything about us Sri Lankans, it would include the fact that we love our spices. Our local cuisine is known for particular combinations of herbs, meats, vegetables, fruits and rices; which are highly centred upon the use of spices. Spices grown on our own soil and commonly used in our kitchens comprise cinnamon, pepper, clove, cardamom, chilli, cumin, nutmeg, turmeric and ginger.
